What if our greatest heroes became our greatest threat? Injustice: Gods Among Us introduces a bold new franchise to the fighting game genre from NetherRealm Studios, creators of the definitive fighting game Mortal Kombat. Featuring DC Comics icons such Batman, Cyborg, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Solomon Grundy, Superman and Wonder Woman, the latest title from the award-winning studio presents a deep original story. Heroes and villains will engage in epic battles on a massive scale in a world where the line between good and evil has been blurred.

With my love for fighting games and my fascination with Superheroes, it made sense for me to be the one to review Injustice Gods Among Us.

Visually, the levels are stunning and the Superheroes have had a bit of a makeover costume wise. Their movements are fluid and their character specific moves are pretty darn special. However, the one thing i would put down from the visuals are the characters mouths, i know it’s nit picking but they are pretty terrible, especially when compared to recent games with jaw dropping graphics.

The gameplay is on par with previous fighting games including those pesky moves, that no matter how many times you try to execute the move, it just won’t do it, until you get to that angry, button bashing stage and finally get that tick at the top of the screen. It’s because of this, in relation to the combos, that the Tutorial can seem a bit long winded.

The game contains a destructible environment and the levels fall apart  as you fight your opponent, but it really comes to life during the levels transitions in which you can knock your opponent into a different section of the fight area. Each level also includes interactive items, that you can throw at your opponent or throw your opponent against. These two are great elements for a fighting game and gives you a more exciting and vast level to kick-ass.

The Story Mode is the same formula as Mortal Kombat 9, and gives the feeling of watching an Injustice cartoon movie, so it’s basically one massive FMV with fights thrown in there, and has an almost seamless transition from FMV to fight mode. There are several different difficult levels, and the higher the level you choose, the easier it seems for the AI fighter to ‘skank’ you by using the same move repeatedly without giving you a moment to retaliate and taking away massive chunks of your health bar, this is especially true with your characters alternate counterpart, so be wary of this. Luckily, if you lose the fight, because of the structure of the game, it will only take you back to the beginning of that fight, with no unnecessary faffing.

It took me 4 hours and 20 minutes to complete Story Mode and that included taking some breaks, so a quicker completion time may well be possible. Yes, this may seem short, but thankfully, with the other elements of the game, there is plenty to keep you occupied.

Battle is and arcade type mode, in which you can play as any Hero or Villain featured in the game, as well playing on any featured level. In this mode, you will fight 10 characters, a mix of Heroes and Villains and at the end, you will get a what happened next type FMV for your selected character.

S.T.A.R Labs is a great addition to the game. This is 240 levels of character specific, scenario missions (more levels available from DLC) and gives you the opportunity to get to know the characters better with some added knowledge and practice of their moves. Based on how you perform, you will be award with a Star Rating of 1,2 or 3 ultimately leading to an unlockable if 3 stars are gained on every level.

Unlockables in the game aren’t amazing. Much in the same way as Playstation All-Stars, you have a Player Card and reaching a certain XP level or completing so many levels with a certain character will unlock backgrounds, icons and portraits for said Player card. These aren’t the only unlockables, and you will notice that throughout the game, you will be awarded with Access cards and Armory Keys. These are for use in the Archives and and using them can unlock items such as Concept Art, Music, Alternate Costumes and more. But the best thing you can use these cards for are the XP Boosters, enabling you to level up faster.

TIP: Don’t ‘buy’ an XP Booster just before you turn off the console as you will lose it and will have wasted the Cards/Keys that you spent on it. Only get these boosters if you intend on playing the number of fights it is valid for, or at least most of them.

Oh, and don’t forget to sign up to WBID on the Main Menu of the game as this will unlock an old school costume for The Flash.

Overall, the game is humorous, engaging and fun with an equal dash of frustrating, but is a great game for fans of  either/or both, superheroes and fighting games.

Men’s Room Mayhem takes toilet gaming to a whole new level! In this frantic line drawing game based around men’s room etiquette you take on the role of the janitor & guide your patrons around the men’s room. You need pinpoint precision & strategic steering to get your patrons to use urinals, toilet cubicles and sinks whilst avoiding fights and having nasty little accidents. As the waves increase the patrons pile up fast.

Pros:

• Game play is very much a mix of Flight Control HD and Jetpack Joyride. Guide patrons to their desired location by drawing a line on screen. The Jetpack part comes from the in game challenges the game throws at you.
• Challenges unlock as you clear the previous ones. Unlocking x amount of challenges unlocks an overall rank, In this case its bronze, silver and gold.
• Patrons will randomly enter the bathroom and depending on their icon above their head, depends on where they would like to go. A yellow rain drop is a number one and a bog roll is a number two. You have both urinals and a toilet to guide patrons too.
• Earn an etiquette bonus by having patrons at adjacent urinals. Other bonuses can be earned like near miss or wash hands bonus.
• Special patrons will make themselves known and with it they bring a twist to the game play. Some of the things to expect are, hippies that wont listen to you, a woman who distracts and freezes other patrons. Lower level random patrons can be people in a hurry or an old man that takes ages to travel anywhere.
• Rack up high scores thanks to the scoring system. Anyone left in the bathroom at the end of the round will be counted and used as a multiplier. So apart from going for etiquette and near miss bonuses, you can also keep patrons hanging around for even more points!
• Rounds are time based.
• The game is fast and frantic and looks great on the Vita screen. The touchscreen works brilliantly and the sound effects are comical.
• Two modes are available. Normal mode is very much you main mode, unlock new challenges and go for high scores. Blitz mode is a fast frantic survive as long as you can affair,select any of the unlocked levels. Both modes will give you many hours of enjoyment.
• Both modes have online leader boards which can be filtered down by level or friends only etc.
• Seven levels are available to unlock and all have their own unique layout and collection of patrons. Start off in a local pub and unlock night clubs,the circus or even a beach bathroom.
• Tips screen is presented to you in the way of bathroom wall drawings. Its this charm that is apparent through out the whole game.

Cons:

• Unlocking challenges is a bit stupid. Upon challenge completion you cannot unlock the next lot until you quit or get game over. It would make more sense for the game to unlock the new challenges as you go, allowing you to keep on playing.
• Few problems with the game finishing but continuing to run in the background and build up my score.

In summary, You will get a lot of enjoyment out of the game even if you feel embarrassed by the name! The whole game is charmful and addictive. The simple game controls and play mechanic really allows you to just  kick back and relax. Online leader boards will further extend the longevity of the game. Fans of byte size gaming are in luck due to the 3 minute rounds the game has. I enjoyed and will continue to enjoy this little gem of a game. For want of a better phrase, This is a perfect game for when one is using the lavatory. Ignore the toilet jokes, This game is a winner in anyone’s book!

Pros:

• Graphics have been improved, from the colour to the detail of the levels. On the PC you have access to a lot of graphic options including a FOV slider which is a god send. Levels are bright and colourful.
• Story is told through a graphic novel style, usually used on the loading screens.
• Campaign is all co-op enabled and a new lobby system makes it easier than ever to play with friends. To play with randoms you just need to open up the room to the public.
• Story is broken into areas and then into levels.
• Game is a wave based tower defense game with a FPS twist.
• You can add modifiers to the levels which are called “Feats of strength” where you can earn extra cash,exp by putting these on. They are things like harder enemies,less ammo etc.
• 4 characters to pick from, all with a different starting gun. From a sniper to assault rifleman fire weapon and a shot gunner.
• Level up to earn new weapons,abilities (perks), towers and more inventory slots.
• Mini map in the corner shows the level in 2D and shows the flow of enemies and where your turrets are.
• Planning phase is used to set up towers, looking at the doors will show you what enemies and number of them are coming in the next wave,
• Towers can be upgraded to improve range,rate of fire etc.
• At the end of the wave you get a resource dump to use for building and upgrading.
• If you find the game too tough then easy mode is available with no major drawbacks except you level up a bit slower.
• Perks can be unlocked and add more to the tactical approach to the game. Perks like critical hits chances or extra damage or enemies hitting the core get additional damage.
• The game splits tactical and straight up FPS action within the levels.
• Each area ends with a boss battle and they are capable of destroying your defenses.
• The mix between the two genres can in some levels be very well balanced.
• Co-op is the best way to play the game but playing solo is still satisfactory.

Cons:

• Weapons are slow, especially at reloading and to be honest are not that great .
• New players will feel a bit confused at first as there is so much going on in the level that you will feel a bit over come.
• Cannot upgrade weapons themselves.
• Upgrading towers doesn’t have a indicator of how many resources is needed.
• Falling out of the level or falling through the wall is quite common.
• Got a few instances of the game locking up or freezing during play.
• Later levels lose the balancing between FPS and tactical tower placement and turns more into a huge shooting gallery.

In summary, The game is good and I did enjoy playing it. I like the way you make the game as hard or as easy as you want. Tower placement is key and using shooting as a last resort is brilliant. Nothing is more satisfying than setting the action phase and just standing there and watching you turrets taking out everyone. A lot of the time I never really knew what was going on but it never stopped my enjoyment. The game is a huge huge improvement over the original. With a bit more polish and the devs listening to fan feedback, this game can easily beat the original in ever way. If you can I suggest you play in co-op and have a blast with it.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced Gran Turismo 6 (GT6), the latest version of PlayStation’s best-selling franchise, will be released in Holiday, 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.

GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface. A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content. Meanwhile, the game is also set for expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets and increased social and community functions.

All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5, which has sold over 10 million copies since launching in 2010, will be retained in GT6. But notable new additions to the already impressive line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1,200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online. Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalize their own custom cars in game to the greatest ever level possible.

The UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them brand new. There will also be regular additions of new tracks set to be made available online. The improved course maker function will provide gorgeous scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía.

A long time ago, but not so far away, Pirate Monkey Zombies – stupid, smelly, ugly, rotten and disgusting creatures – invaded a peaceful village. They kidnapped Hanzo’s – a rather short ninja’s – family. Take control of his awesome blade and aid him in the quest to free them. Cut, slice, snip, sever, chop, shear and trim hordes of Pirate Monkey Zombies.

Pros:

• Fast responsive game play, Touchscreen works flawlessly and is very sensitive.
• Cartoon graphics with humorous zombies.
• Simple kill everything on the screen.
• Swipe the screen to kill enemies, some bigger enemies need to be attacked in certain exposed areas. Whether it be the one zombie or a hand full, swiping frantically over the screen will get the job done and be quite fun in the process. Swiping is also a requirement to avoid projectiles.
• Leader-board support.
• Animations are accurate and look hilarious, Aim for the zombies torso and watch them fall in half, aim at the head and well you get the idea.
• Story is pass able and injects humor when ever it can.
• Endless mode adds a lot to the replay ability.
• Level up in game to get more health or Jutsu power. Unlock new Jutsu powers.
• Jutsu powers are your power moves which are really useful in the later levels. With abilities such as being able to freeze all on screen enemies, You will be thankful for them.
• New game plus allows you to replay the story and continue upgrading.
• Boss battles are common and varied and add a deal of difficulty to the game.

Cons:

• Game mechanics get repetitive, you never really deviate from the slash slash mechanic. Zombies may look different later on but to kill them is the same as the first.
• Levels or arenas are very small and don’t leave you much time/space to see whats coming.
• Enemies can just appear on screen at times, usually right behind you.
• Some enemies the barrel zombie in particular is a frustrating experience at times. Having to wait to attack is a tedious affair and with other faster zombies on screen, the urge to kill rises.
• With what can feel like a iOS game, the price point can seem a bit high to some.

In summary, Its a small bite sized game that does offer a lot of game for your buck. Story mode is where you will spend most of your time, But the extra modes keep you coming back for more. A game that uses only the touch screen is a welcome addition to the Vita library. The Vita has its own Fruit Ninja esque game, Albeit a zombie monkey kind of fruit. Its not the sort of game you will have long sessions on, very much a every now and then or a quick blast type game. The price point shouldn’t put anyone off really as for all the options,modes and game play you get out of it, Its worth it. Kids will love the simplistic approach and have a laugh doing it. The Vita needs a diverse library of games and games like this only offer more opportunities and ideas for games moving forward.
