Review: Nogalious (Steam)

Nogalious is a retro-style action platformer that pays homage to the era of classic 2D platforming on 8-bit personal computers. Explore 5 different worlds and go through cozy dungeons in the first title of a trilogy that tells the story of Nogalious, his daughter Mariet, and the evil Darama.

  • 87MB Download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Opening optional tutorial.
  • Classic chiptune soundtrack.
  • 2D platformer gameplay.
  • A wide variety of weapons like boomerangs, bombs, swords and more.
  • Difficult.
  • Clear UI.
  • Online and offline leaderboards.
  • Arcade feels.
  • Three continues.
  • Tight handling/controls.
  • A lot of fun.
  • Boss fights.

Cons:

  • Broken English and spelling mistakes in dialogue.
  • Tutorial not that helpful.
  • Difficult.
  • The learning curve with the way weapons work and controls respond.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
