Review: LUMINES Remastered (PlayStation 4)
LUMINES REMASTERED brings minimalism to the puzzle genre where the fusion of light and sound sets the stage for a two-color falling block experience in HD and 4K. Groove to electronic jams while strategically dropping blocks before the BPM bar sweeps combos clean after each measure.
Pros:
- Crisp HD/4K graphics.
- Platinum trophy.
- 1.76GB Download size.
- Puzzle gameplay. Make as many blocks of four as you can, A bar comes along periodically that takes them away and scores them for you.
- Combo counter.
- Seven game modes- Challenge, Skin edit, Time attack, Puzzle, Mission, Vs CPU and 2 Player battle.
- Two controller layouts.
- Vibration- Off, Blocks only or in Rythm and with blocks.
- Trance Vibration: If you have extra sets of controllers, turn on Rhythm, sync
multiple controllers and feel the bass across your body. Supports 4 controllers. Works really well and does nothing but increase the immersion and fun factor. - Banging soundtrack taking in many genres, Returning players will recognize the classics.
- Optional tutorial section. Videos and text.
- Full online leaderboard support with filters like game type and friends.
- Full stats area for everything you do in the game.
- Animated backgrounds.
- Avatar- Earn new ones for doing particular feats. All the avatars are presented in display cases.
- 40 Skins to unlock. Apart from visual changes, Skins are also the music tracks.
- An endless mode can be unlocked.
- Fast loading times.
- Simple controls. Analog or d-pad for movement then face buttons to rotate.
- Addictive.
- Minimal UI.
- Challenge: There are three types of modes in Challenge
o Basic – The goal is to clear all 24 skins, play one round
o Shuffle – Unlocked skins randomly appear in this mode
o Endless – Play until Game Over - Very self-explanatory.
- Near infinite replayability.
- Best played with headphones.
- VS- Send attacks to each other by playing as normal. Attacks make your side of the screen bigger and your opponents smaller. This can go back and forth and is actually a lot of fun.
- Vs com- 10 levels, the Best level is shown on the menu. Gets progressively harder and is like an arcade mode in a fighting game. You get infinite retries but once you quit, You start again from level 1.
- Some clever block skins like records, Cheese, Beats and so many more.
- Skin Edit mode- You add 10 of your favorite skins can be played in Single Lap and Endless modes.
- Time Attack- A mode where you clear blocks in X seconds with three-time settings 60, 180 and 300.
- Cool transitions as you change skin in the middle of a game.
- Puzzle- A mode where you solve a puzzle (create a shape) within X seconds has around100 total puzzles.
- Mission: A mode where you are given a mission to clear within X seconds with 50 total missions.
Cons:
- No online multiplayer at all.
- No new skins added.
- Lacks colorblind support.
- Need at least 3 controllers to get the proper trance experience.
- Sensitive drop meaning it is easy to accidentally fast drop blocks.
- No proper tutorial.
- You don’t like blocks.
- Some music tracks are not great.
