Review: Mighty Gunvolt Burst (Nintendo 3DS)

The game’s systems have been completely revamped and powered up with lots of new additions, including a deep character customisation system that lets you mould and shape your character into the ultimate hero that works best for you.

Pros:

  • Pixel art graphics.
  • 108 Blocks download size.
  • Challenges- Games own achievements.
  • Re bindable controls.
  • HUD settings- What shows on screen and gauges.
  • Eight save slots.
  • Platformer game play in a 2D world.
  • Two characters- Gunvolt and Mighty Number 9’s Beck.
  • Levels can be played in any order.
  • Collection- Shows collected pixel stickers and modules.
  • Can see your best score and rank on each level.
  • Customise- Deep set of options using collected powers and abilities. You have a set limit but you can change things from bullet colour to speed, Method of fire and even bullet dissipation with loads more left to discover.
  • Test area to try out your new creations.
  • Auto saves regularly.
  • Solid responsive controls.
  • Big boss battles.
  • Health pick ups.
  • Generous checkpoints.
  • Difficult game.
  • Burst-Kill enemies and bosses up close to get a burst to do more damage but also rack up a unique combo adding extra points.
  • A lot of replay value.
  • Treasures- Hidden collectibles that can unlock new customise options.
  • Clever level design with multiple routes and hidden areas.
  • Cool effects in play from a silhouette graphic palette to water physics and ice.
  • Basic opening tutorial.
  • Fun to play.
  • Has a strong Mega man feel to it all.
  • Cracking soundtrack.

Cons:

  • No 3D implementation which feels like a let down as the levels would really pop.
  • To use food to replenish health requires you to pause and pick.
  • Difficult game.
  • No leaderboards.
