Just a quick set of mini reviews for a couple of games that I feel are worthy of your time. I have played these on my Android device and at the time of writing both were available for free on the Google Play store. I may well put a few more articles like this up in the future so keep on eye on the site.
Angry Birds Star Wars
A new Angry Birds game is nothing new these days, but Angry Birds Star Wars is looking to break that mould. For what we get here is a really good fun new fresh experience. I myself have played the other versions of Angry Birds and after a while I would get bored, fed up and move on to the next, Star Wars is different. It uses popular techniques from previous games and builds upon it in huge strides. The attention to detail and production values are high. Birds are now characters in the Star Wars universe each with their own abilities such as light sabers, pistols to using the force to move objects. It may all sound ridiculous and have you thinking this is all just a gimmick. Truth being once you play it once, you’re hooked, from the licensed sound effects to the brilliant level art, you are always trying to best each level. The cut scenes take key parts from the films and re-create them with the birds, again done very well and you actually look forward to seeing them. You can also call in the Millennium Falcon if you get stuck and destroy whatever you have targeted. The game is great and a must for Star Wars and Angry Bird fans alike. This is Angry Birds but not as we know it!
Pocket Planes is from the brilliant minds that gave us Tiny Tower. Usually found on every IOS device, the game is also available in Beta on Android devices. The game sees you running a busy airport, transporting passengers to destinations all over the world, delivering cargo to wherever it’s needed. You earn money from these jobs which you use to buy bigger planes, new planes or if you want to, expand your empire and build new airports which in turn unlocks more jobs and better rewards. When a plane is in flight you can sit there and watch it but that sounds boring, right? Well, yes it is, but you can use that boredom to make some money. As the plane is flying through the air, random amounts of money will come up on-screen and you can tap them to claim them. This is a nice touch if you just want to chill and earn cash monies. Another great feature is you can find plane parts, usually after building a new airport and trade these pieces with friends or keep them and collect the set to build a plane. Planes can be upgraded to travel further afield ( all planes have a radius in which they can travel based on stats and fuel), carry more passengers or you can increase the speed allowing them to make faster drop offs. All travel is done real-time so if it says two minutes then it means two minutes. Fear not as even when you close the game down the planes will still carry on their journey and alert you once arrived. Full Twitter integration is available, you can tweet what journey you’re on or you can view the in-game Twitter/Facebook parody section and retweet the funny tweets in there. The game overall is a lovely chill out with a lot going on. It is a deep game that will keep you entertained for hours with its pixel art charms and the will to rank up. Who knew running an airport could be so much fun?
